Caged compound
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001567
A molecule that has been chemically modified by the attachment of a photolabile protecting group, which renders the molecule biologically inactive or less reactive. Upon irradiation with light of a specific wavelength, the protecting group is cleaved, releasing the active molecule. These compounds are widely used in biological research to achieve precise spatial and temporal control over molecular activity.
