Chemokine
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001988
A small cytokine, typically between 8 and 10 kDa in molecular weight, that induces directed chemotaxis in nearby responsive cells. These proteins are characterized by conserved cysteine residues that form disulfide bonds, dictating their tertiary structure. Chemokines are classified into four main subfamilies based on the arrangement of their N-terminal cysteine motifs: CC, CXC, C, and CX3C.
