Rubredoxin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010449
A small, non-heme iron protein found in anaerobic bacteria and archaea, characterized by a single iron atom coordinated by four cysteine thiolates in a tetrahedral geometry. This iron-sulfur cluster participates in electron transfer reactions within the cell. Rubredoxins typically have a molecular weight of about 6 kDa and exhibit characteristic absorption spectra.
