Acid-labile sulfur
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000142
Sulfur atoms in biological molecules that are readily released as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) upon treatment with a strong acid. This type of sulfur is typically found in iron-sulfur clusters within proteins, where it bridges iron atoms. The release of H2S is a common method for quantifying these specific sulfur atoms in metalloproteins.
