Hydropolysulfides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005491
Compounds of the type R-S(n)-H, in which a hydrocarbyl group R is bound to one end of a chain of two or more sulfur atoms and a hydrogen atom caps the other end, as in RSSH and RSSSH. Some authors leave hydrodisulfides, RSSH, out of the class. They are unstable, readily losing sulfur to give the thiol, and persulfides on cysteine residues are the best known example in biology.
