Hydrophobicity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005490
The physicochemical property of a molecule or a molecular entity that describes its tendency to avoid water and associate with nonpolar environments. This characteristic is driven by the unfavorable energetic cost of disrupting water's hydrogen bonding network to accommodate nonpolar solutes. Highly hydrophobic substances are typically insoluble in water and prefer organic solvents.
