Catena-

A descriptor used in inorganic and coordination chemistry nomenclature to indicate a linear chain structure formed by repeating structural units linked end to end. The term is prefixed to the name of the repeating unit to describe polymeric substances. For example, catena-poly(sulfur) denotes a polymer consisting of a simple chain of sulfur atoms.
