Conjunctiva

A transparent mucous membrane that lines the inner surface of the eyelids and covers the anterior surface of the eyeball, excluding the cornea. It contains goblet cells that produce mucin, contributing to the tear film and lubricating the eye. The conjunctiva protects the eye from foreign bodies and infections.
