Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002508

A model in which a system's properties are considered to be smoothly varying functions of position and time, without discrete particles or voids. This approach simplifies complex molecular interactions by treating matter as a continuous medium, allowing for the application of macroscopic physical laws. It is often employed in computational simulations where individual atomic details are not explicitly resolved, such as in implicit solvent models.
