Coumarins
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002629
A class of naturally occurring organic compounds characterized by a benzopyran-2-one (1-benzopyran-2-one) ring system. These compounds are lactones derived from o-hydroxycinnamic acid and are widely found in plants, contributing to their fragrance and defense mechanisms. Many coumarins exhibit biological activity, including anticoagulant and antioxidant properties.
