A non-SI unit of mass, also known as the unified atomic mass unit (u), defined as one twelfth of the mass of an unbound atom of carbon-12 in its ground state. It is approximately 1.660 539 066 60 × 10^-27 kilograms. This unit is commonly used to express atomic, molecular, and ionic masses.
