Diversity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013046
The structural dissimilarity among molecules within a collection, such as a chemical library used for drug discovery. Diversity is assessed by comparing molecular properties like size, shape, flexibility, and the distribution of functional groups and pharmacophores. A high degree of structural diversity increases the probability of finding compounds with novel biological activities or modes of action, contrasting with focused libraries that contain structurally similar compounds.
