Dysmenorrhea

Painful menstrual cramps of uterine origin, occurring before or during menstruation. Primary dysmenorrhea is cramping pain in the lower abdomen without any underlying pelvic pathology, while secondary dysmenorrhea is caused by a disorder in the reproductive organs. The pain is caused by uterine contractions mediated by prostaglandins released from the endometrium.
