Ectopic expression

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003564

The abnormal activation of gene expression in a cell type or tissue where the gene is not normally expressed. This can occur due to mutations or epigenetic changes, leading to altered cellular function or disease. For instance, a gene typically active in the liver might be ectopically expressed in the brain.
