Epigenetic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004024
Relating to heritable changes in gene function or phenotype that do not involve alterations to the underlying DNA sequence. These modifications affect how cells read the genes, influencing gene expression through mechanisms such as DNA methylation and histone modification. An epigenetic event can be caused by environmental factors and can result in a change that is passed on to daughter cells during cell division.
