Methylation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007280
A biochemical process involving the addition of a methyl group (CH3) to a substrate molecule. This modification can occur on DNA, proteins, or other organic compounds, influencing their function and activity. In epigenetics, DNA methylation at cytosine residues within CpG islands regulates gene expression without altering the underlying DNA sequence.
