Empirical formula
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003855
A chemical formula that shows the simplest whole-number ratio of atoms of each element in a compound. It is derived from experimental data, such as elemental analysis, and does not necessarily represent the actual number of atoms in a molecule. For example, the empirical formula for glucose (C6H12O6) is CH2O.
