Emulsifier-free emulsion polymerisation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003857
An emulsion polymerization run without added colloid stabilizer, in which the stabilizer forms in situ: persulfate initiator fragments leave ionic end groups on oligomeric chains, which become surface-active as they grow and stabilize the new latex particles. The method gives latexes free of surfactant residues, but they usually have low solids content and poorer electrolyte stability than surfactant-stabilized latexes.
