Entropy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003964
A thermodynamic state function that quantifies the degree of disorder or randomness within a system. It measures the number of possible microscopic arrangements corresponding to a given macroscopic state. Entropy tends to increase in isolated systems over time, as described by the second law of thermodynamics, and is typically measured in joules per kelvin (J/K).
