Equatorial
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004052
A position occupied by a substituent on a cyclohexane ring that lies approximately in the plane of the ring. These substituents extend outwards from the ring's periphery. Equatorial positions are generally more stable than axial positions due to reduced steric interactions, particularly in monosubstituted cyclohexanes.
