Ring reversal
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010360
A conformational change in a cyclic molecule where the ring undergoes a flip, interconverting between two equivalent or non-equivalent chair or boat forms. This process involves the movement of atoms such that axial substituents become equatorial and vice versa. In cyclohexane, for instance, the chair form undergoes rapid ring reversal at room temperature, interconverting axial and equatorial positions.
