Equivalent diameter
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004077
The diameter of a hypothetical spherical particle that exhibits the same value for a specific physical property as an irregularly shaped particle under consideration. This property can be related to its volume, surface area, or aerodynamic behavior, such as its terminal settling velocity in a fluid. For atmospheric aerosols, the Stokes diameter is a common equivalent diameter based on aerodynamic properties.
