Hydrodynamically equivalent sphere
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005467
A hypothetical sphere that exhibits the same hydrodynamic properties, such as sedimentation coefficient or diffusion coefficient, as a real, irregularly shaped macromolecule in a given solvent. This concept simplifies the analysis of complex polymer shapes by allowing their behavior to be modeled as an equivalent spherical particle. Its radius is known as the hydrodynamic radius.
