European Inventory of Existing Chemical Substances

A list of chemical substances that were considered to be on the European Community market between January 1, 1971, and September 18, 1981. This inventory, often abbreviated as EINECS, was established to distinguish 'existing' chemicals from 'new' chemicals for regulatory purposes. Substances on EINECS were not subject to the pre-market notification requirements of the Dangerous Substances Directive (67/548/EEC).
