Fibrinolytic

Relating to substances or processes that promote the breakdown of fibrin, the protein forming the meshwork of a blood clot. These agents are used therapeutically to dissolve existing blood clots, for example, in cases of myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke. Streptokinase and urokinase are examples of fibrinolytic enzymes.
