Fibrinolysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013101
The enzymatic process that dissolves fibrin clots, preventing them from growing and obstructing blood flow. The main enzyme, plasmin, cleaves the fibrin mesh into soluble fragments, restoring the patency of the blood vessel after tissue repair. This physiological mechanism is tightly regulated and works in balance with the coagulation cascade to maintain hemostasis.
