Fibrillation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004403
A rapid, irregular, and unsynchronized contraction of individual muscle fibers, which does not produce effective movement of the muscle as a whole. In skeletal muscle, it appears as fine, spontaneous twitching that is not visible through the skin and is detected by electromyography. This phenomenon is distinct from fasciculation, which involves the synchronous contraction of an entire motor unit and is often visible.
