Muscle spindle

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007704

A specialized sensory receptor located within skeletal muscles that detects changes in muscle length and the rate of change of length. It consists of intrafusal muscle fibers enclosed in a connective tissue capsule, innervated by both sensory and motor neurons. This proprioceptor provides feedback to the central nervous system, contributing to muscle tone and coordination.
