Muscarinic receptor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007703

A type of acetylcholine receptor that is a G protein-coupled receptor, mediating the effects of acetylcholine in the parasympathetic nervous system and in the central nervous system. These receptors are activated by muscarine and blocked by atropine, distinguishing them from nicotinic receptors. There are five subtypes of muscarinic receptors (M1-M5), each with distinct tissue distributions and signaling pathways.
