Adenosine receptor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000243
A type of G protein-coupled receptor that binds to adenosine, a nucleoside that acts as a neuromodulator in the central nervous system and a signaling molecule in peripheral tissues. There are four known subtypes (A1, A2A, A2B, A3), each mediating distinct physiological effects, including regulation of neurotransmitter release, inflammation, and cardiac function. Caffeine exerts its stimulant effects by blocking adenosine receptors.
