Dopamine
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003386
A catecholamine neurotransmitter in the brain that regulates motor control, motivation, reward, and cognitive functions. It is synthesized from the amino acid tyrosine and is a precursor to norepinephrine and epinephrine. The degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra region of the brain is the primary pathological feature of Parkinson disease, leading to symptoms such as bradykinesia and tremor.
