Sympathetic nervous system

A division of the autonomic nervous system responsible for regulating the body's 'fight or flight' response. It prepares the body for stressful situations by increasing heart rate, dilating pupils, and diverting blood flow to muscles. Its nerve fibers originate from the thoracic and lumbar regions of the spinal cord.
