Atony
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000912
A physiological state characterized by the loss of normal muscular tone or strength, resulting in muscles that are flaccid and weak. This condition can affect smooth muscle, such as in the uterus or bladder leading to functional problems, or skeletal muscle. In neurotoxicology, atony can be a symptom of exposure to certain agents that interfere with neuromuscular transmission or central nervous system function.
