Spasmolytic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011077
A substance that relieves or prevents muscle spasms, which are sudden, involuntary muscle contractions. These agents work by either acting on the central nervous system or directly on the smooth muscle to cause relaxation. Examples of spasmolytic drugs include baclofen, which acts on the central nervous system, and dicyclomine, which acts on smooth muscle in the gastrointestinal tract.
