Antispasmodic

A pharmaceutical agent that suppresses muscle spasms, particularly those affecting smooth muscles in the gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, or uterus. These drugs work by relaxing muscle tissue or by interfering with nerve signals that cause contractions. Dicyclomine is an example of an antispasmodic used to treat irritable bowel syndrome.
