Myopathy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013316
A clinical disorder originating in the skeletal muscles, characterized by muscle weakness, cramps, or stiffness. This condition results from a primary dysfunction of the muscle fibers themselves, rather than from disorders of the nerves or neuromuscular junctions that control them. Myopathies are classified as inherited, such as muscular dystrophies, or acquired, resulting from inflammatory conditions, endocrine disorders, or exposure to certain drugs and toxins.
