Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005212
An adverse drug reaction characterized by a decrease in platelet count following exposure to heparin, an anticoagulant medication. This condition involves the formation of antibodies against complexes of heparin and platelet factor 4, leading to platelet activation and aggregation. It can result in both thrombotic complications and a reduction in circulating platelets.
