Henry’s law volatility constant
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005211
A specific form of the Henry's law constant that relates the concentration of a dissolved gas in the liquid phase to its partial pressure in the gas phase. This constant is the inverse of the Henry's law solubility constant and is typically expressed with units such as atmospheres per mole per liter. It quantifies the tendency of a dissolved gas to escape into the gas phase.
(via p and c) A specific form of the Henry's law volatility constant where the partial pressure of the gas is p and the concentration of the dissolved gas is expressed as molarity (c, moles of solute per liter of solution). This constant, denoted as H_pc, has units of Pa L mol^-1. It is frequently used in environmental chemistry to describe gas partitioning.
(via p and w) A proportionality constant that relates the partial pressure of a volatile solute in the gas phase to its mass fraction in the liquid phase. This constant indicates the tendency of a solute to partition from the liquid into the gas phase. It is typically expressed in units of pascals (Pa).
(via p and x) A specific form of the Henry's law volatility constant where the partial pressure of the gas is p and the concentration of the dissolved gas is expressed as mole fraction (x, moles of solute per total moles of solution). This constant, denoted as H_px, has units of Pa. It is often used in physical chemistry and chemical engineering for phase equilibrium calculations.
