Platelet-derived growth factor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009034

A protein mitogen released from blood platelets upon activation, which stimulates the growth and division of cells, particularly fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells, and glial cells. It functions in angiogenesis and wound healing by promoting cell proliferation and migration. This growth factor is a dimeric glycoprotein composed of two polypeptide chains, either A or B, which can form homodimers (AA, BB) or a heterodimer (AB).
