Glial-derived neurotrophic factor

A protein that promotes the survival and differentiation of neurons, particularly dopaminergic and motor neurons. It belongs to the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily and is secreted by glial cells. This factor is being investigated for its potential therapeutic applications in neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's disease.
