Platinum electrode

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013408

The most widely used metallic working electrode in electrochemistry, made of platinum as foil, wire, a disc or a mesh. Platinum is chemically inert and conducts well, so the electrode supplies or accepts the electrons of redox couples in solution while staying out of the reaction itself. In redox potentiometric titrations it is the indicator electrode, and the platinized form is the substrate of the standard hydrogen electrode, whereas pH is measured with a glass electrode.
