Hilbert transforms
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005303
A mathematical operation that shifts the phase of every frequency component of a signal by 90 degrees without altering its amplitude. In analytical spectroscopy, this transform is applied to spectral data to interconvert the real and imaginary parts of a complex function, such as the relationship between absorbance and refractive index described by the Kramers-Kronig relations. Applying the Hilbert transform to an absorption spectrum can yield the corresponding dispersion spectrum, and vice versa.
