Humic substances
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005427
Complex, heterogeneous organic compounds formed from the decomposition of plant and animal matter in soils, sediments, and natural waters. These substances are resistant to further microbial degradation and contribute significantly to the organic carbon content of ecosystems. They are broadly categorized into humic acids, fulvic acids, and humin based on their solubility at different pH levels.
