Ichthyosis

A group of inherited skin disorders characterized by dry, scaly, or thickened skin, resembling fish scales. These conditions result from defects in keratinization, the process by which skin cells mature and form the protective outer layer. The severity and appearance of the scales vary widely among the different types of ichthyosis.
