Immune surveillance

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005651

A continuous monitoring process by the immune system to detect and destroy abnormal cells, such as those that are cancerous or infected with pathogens. This mechanism involves specialized immune cells that recognize and eliminate altered self-cells before they can proliferate and cause disease. Natural killer cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes are key mediators of this process.
