Information depth
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005832
The effective thickness of the surface region from which analytical information is obtained in a surface sensitive technique. It is determined by the mean free path of the emitted or scattered particles within the material. For electron-based techniques, the information depth is typically in the nanometer range, making them highly surface sensitive.
