Injection
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005874
A sterile liquid preparation, or the act of delivering one, that is introduced into the body through a syringe and needle, for example intravenously, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, or intradermally. Because it bypasses the gastrointestinal tract and first-pass liver metabolism, an intravenous dose reaches the circulation in full, while other injection routes absorb more slowly and sometimes incompletely.
