Internal validity

The extent to which a study accurately measures the causal relationship between an independent variable and a dependent variable, free from confounding factors. It assesses whether observed changes in the dependent variable are truly attributable to the independent variable. High internal validity is a prerequisite for drawing reliable conclusions about cause and effect within a specific study.
