Isotope ratio
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006236
The relative abundance of one isotope of a chemical element compared to another isotope of the same element within a given sample. This ratio is determined with high precision using mass spectrometry, which separates ions based on their mass-to-charge ratio. Isotope ratios provide information for applications such as radiometric dating, determining the geographic origin of materials, and tracing metabolic pathways.
