Jet separator

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006284

A device used in gas chromatography-mass spectrometry interfaces to remove the carrier gas (typically helium) from the analyte stream before it enters the mass spectrometer. It operates by exploiting the difference in momentum between the lighter carrier gas and the heavier analyte molecules. The analyte molecules are enriched in the central stream, while the carrier gas is pumped away.
